For some reason when I'm not feeling well I crave all things bland, and dairy. Baked potatoes with butter. Pasta with parmesan cheese and butter. Plain yogurt. Brie. White bread dipped in milk. That's pretty much what I've been eating since I got this toothache. It helps that most of these things are also easy to chew.
Today was the closest I've come in months to not getting any solar cooking done despite a sunny day. I had to be at the dentist at 8:30, and I have to go back tomorrow, then I took Martin to his doctor. We thought his incision was not healing properly, but it's doing fine. When we got home it was late and my tooth was hurting.
Once again a mix saved the solar cooking day. I baked some lovely vanilla cupcakes using a mix from Trader Joe's. I've mentioned before that neither of us like frosting very much so I topped them with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. For a little while, especially when I was trying to make one look pretty for the picture, they took my mind off my aching tooth.

Well, you've succeeded. It looks very pretty, indeed. And, to do it with a toothache! Well done; well done.
ReplyDeleteWith any baked goods, like this, I find that if it takes a while they tend to loose their great flavors. I looked this up and found that baked goods that take a lot of time to bake, the flavors leave the product as the wonderful smells. So, it doesn't taste nearly as well as a fast baked good. Does anyone find this happening?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don't really have anything to compare it to. Before I started this blog I rarely baked. I mostly started experimenting with baked goods for the sake of variety. I'd love to be able to do a taste comparison, but I'm having a hard enough time as is to stay within my Weight Watchers points! If I made two batches of everything all bets would be off! On a serious note, in the summer months I found that the cooking times in the Sun Oven not much longer than a regular oven. Maybe our solar baking is best done in the hotter months when we have the added advantage of not sending the A.C. into overdrive.
